Monitor lamps

Monitor lights (screen bars) are specialist desk lighting mounted directly on the top edge of a monitor. Powered via USB, they illuminate the desk and keyboard without creating reflections on the screen. Here you will find Yeelight Pura, Baseus i-Wok, BlitzWolf CML and 4Smarts LightBar Pro models — suited to computer work, programming, graphic design and video calls.

What is a monitor light and how does it work?

A monitor light, also known as a screen bar or monitor light bar, is a narrow LED bar mounted on the top edge of the screen using a counterweighted clip. The light source points exclusively downwards — onto the desk, keyboard and notes — thanks to asymmetric optics that eliminate direct reflections on the monitor surface. The effect is fundamentally different from a traditional desk lamp placed to the side: no dazzling glare on the screen, even illumination of the work area and clear contrast between the bright desk and the dark background.

Power comes via USB — simply connect the cable to a USB-A or USB-C port on the monitor itself, computer or charger. No mains socket is occupied and no extra cables need to be run across the desk. It fits the vast majority of monitors with a flat or slightly curved top bezel, without any tools.

Colour temperature and brightness adjustment

All models available in this category offer colour temperature adjustment over at least 2700 K–5000 K, with many reaching 6500 K. This is a practical range: warm 2700–3000 K works well in the evenings and for creative work; neutral 4000 K is comfortable for long computer sessions; cool 5000–6500 K boosts concentration and improves on-screen colour rendering — especially important for graphic designers.

Brightness adjustment is smooth or multi-step, usually controlled by touch on the lamp body or with an included remote. Selected models include an ambient light sensor (auto-dimming): the lamp automatically adjusts brightness to room conditions — brightening as it gets dark and dimming when bright afternoon light comes through the window.

Monitor light vs traditional desk lamp

A traditional desk lamp stands to the side of the monitor and directs light at an angle that inevitably causes reflections on the screen — especially on matte but bright IPS or VA panels. It also takes up desk space and gets in the way of working with two monitors. A screen bar is installed once and forgotten: it takes up zero desk space, does not interfere with a dual-monitor setup and illuminates exactly the area that needs it — the desk area in front of the screen.

For programmers working at night the difference is immediate: warm, non-glaring light from above reduces eye fatigue and improves keyboard visibility without brightening the whole room. Graphic designers will appreciate the high CRI of the Yeelight Aries (Ra95) — the colour rendering of printouts and colour samples becomes reliable. During video calls the lamp illuminates the user's face from the front, eliminating the dark silhouette-against-window effect.

Mounting and monitor compatibility

The counterweighted clip holds by its own weight only — no screwing or clamping. It fits monitors with a top bezel thickness of 1–4 cm. BlitzWolf BW-CML3 models have a specially profiled clip designed for curved monitors, so the lamp edge sits flush without wobbling. Standard models work on flat screens from 21 to 34 inches and larger. Before buying, simply check that the monitor's top bezel is not too thin or too rounded.

Beyond monitor lights you will find our full home lighting range, classic desk lamps on a base or with a clip, and LED strips for backlighting the rear of the monitor. You achieve the Ambilight backlight effect by combining a screen bar with an LED strip on the back of the monitor.

FAQ — Monitor lights

Does a monitor light cause reflections on the screen?
No, if it is a model with asymmetric optics (all models recommended here). The light beam is directed exclusively downward and forward, bypassing the screen surface. Standard desk lamps placed to the side can reflect on matte monitors; the screen bar eliminates this problem by design.

What monitor does a screen bar fit?
The vast majority of desk monitors with a top bezel thickness of 10–40 mm. Models with a curved monitor clip (e.g. BlitzWolf BW-CML3) work on curved screens up to 1800R curvature. They do not fit laptops with a very thin bezel (below 5 mm) or monitors with a front-facing camera on top.

What wattage is sufficient for a desk?
Most models draw 5–10 W, which with focused desk illumination provides fully sufficient brightness for all-day work. Models at 250 lm (such as Yeelight Aries) comfortably illuminate a 60×40 cm area in front of the monitor. If you need to brighten a larger part of the desk or the whole room, check desk lamps with 15–20 W output.
