Smart lighting — what makes it stand out?

Smart lighting is not just about turning a lamp on with your phone. The real value lies in adjusting the colour temperature from warm white 2700K to cool white 6500K, smooth dimming without flicker, automatic activation on motion detection and scenes tailored to the time of day. An evening living room can have warm 2700K at 30% brightness, while the kitchen automatically switches to 5000K in the morning to stimulate activity.

FAQ — Frequently asked questions

Which protocol to choose: WiFi or ZigBee for bulbs?

Up to 10–15 bulbs, WiFi is more convenient as it requires no gateway. With more devices or a weak router, ZigBee offers better stability and lower energy consumption. If you already have a ZigBee gateway (e.g. Sonoff Bridge or Aqara), it is worth choosing ZigBee bulbs for system consistency.

Do I need a hub for Yeelight bulbs?

No. Yeelight WiFi bulbs (W1, W3, Smart Bulb 1S) connect directly to the router via the Yeelight app. No hub required. The exception is Yeelight ZigBee bulbs, which require a Yeelight Gateway or Aqara Hub.

Where to start with smart living room lighting?

A basic living room set is one Yeelight ceiling light or 3–4 Yeelight E27 bulbs plus an LED strip behind the TV. A complete, functional smart living room can be built without any electrical work.

Does smart lighting work without the internet?
