Smart lighting — what makes it stand out?
Smart lighting is not just about turning a lamp on with your phone. The real value lies in adjusting the colour temperature from warm white 2700K to cool white 6500K, smooth dimming without flicker, automatic activation on motion detection and scenes tailored to the time of day. An evening living room can have warm 2700K at 30% brightness, while the kitchen automatically switches to 5000K in the morning to stimulate activity.
All devices in this category are controlled via a mobile app, a voice assistant (Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri) or a schedule. Some models work with Apple HomeKit and integrate with iOS Shortcuts, letting you build automations without any programming knowledge.
Living room lighting — Yeelight ceiling lights
Yeelight ceiling lights are the most popular choice for living room lighting. Models such as the Yeelight LED Ceiling Lamp Pro and Yeelight Arwen offer colour temperature adjustment (2700K–6500K) and brightness control, managed via the Yeelight app, Google Home and Alexa. Mounted on the ceiling they serve as the main light source, and synchronisation with other Yeelight devices creates cohesive lighting scenes throughout the flat.
To complement ceiling lighting in the living room, LED strips behind the television or furniture add depth and an ambient effect.
Bedroom lighting — colour adjustment and automation
In the bedroom, the key is brightness and colour control. In the evening, warm, dimmed 2700K light signals bedtime; in the morning, a cooler 5000K helps with waking up. Yeelight Smart Bulb 1S and Meross MSL120 support the full colour spectrum in a single E27 bulb.
Baseus and Yeelight plug-in night lights are compact bedside lights with brightness adjustment, a dusk sensor or touch control. They require no modifications or installation.
Kitchen lighting — LED strips and GU10 bulbs
LED strips with a neutral 4000K or warm 3000K colour work well under kitchen cabinets, illuminating the worktop without reflections on cabinet glass. Sonoff L2 and Yeelight Lightstrip Plus mount under cabinets with 3M tape, plugging into a socket via the included power supply.
GU10 bulbs are ideal for recessed ceiling fixtures in the kitchen — Yeelight W1 GU10 is available in a dimmable white and a colour RGB version. Sold in packs of 4, allowing you to equip a full multi-point ceiling grid in one go.
Garden lighting — solar lights and motion sensors
In the outdoor lights category you will find BlitzWolf BW-OLT1 and Baseus solar lanterns with a built-in battery and PIR motion sensor. They charge during the day and automatically switch on when a person is detected after dark. IP65 protection ensures resistance to rain and frost.
Entry lighting with a motion sensor is not only convenient but also a security element. Sudden illumination of the entrance deters intruders and notifies you via the app about outdoor motion detection.
Protocols: WiFi or ZigBee for lighting?
Most bulbs and LED strips in this category work over WiFi with no additional gateways. Yeelight, Sonoff and Meross devices connect to the WiFi network via the app after installation. ZigBee appears less frequently in lighting, but Sonoff offers a ZigBee Bulb (B02-BL) for larger systems managed through the Sonoff Zigbee Bridge gateway.

FAQ — Frequently asked questions
Which protocol to choose: WiFi or ZigBee for bulbs?
Up to 10–15 bulbs, WiFi is more convenient as it requires no gateway. With more devices or a weak router, ZigBee offers better stability and lower energy consumption. If you already have a ZigBee gateway (e.g. Sonoff Bridge or Aqara), it is worth choosing ZigBee bulbs for system consistency.
Do I need a hub for Yeelight bulbs?
No. Yeelight WiFi bulbs (W1, W3, Smart Bulb 1S) connect directly to the router via the Yeelight app. No hub required. The exception is Yeelight ZigBee bulbs, which require a Yeelight Gateway or Aqara Hub.
How much does smart living room lighting cost?
A basic living room set: one Yeelight ceiling light (approx. £40–70) or 3–4 Yeelight E27 bulbs (approx. £8–15 each) plus an LED strip behind the TV (approx. £20–40). A complete, functional smart living room can be built without any electrical work.
Does smart lighting work without the internet?
Yeelight and Sonoff bulbs support local control over the WiFi network, but full app functionality (cloud sync, remote control from outside the home) requires an internet connection. Meross Matter devices work locally without the cloud. With Home Assistant integration, all devices work without the internet.
