OnePlus 8

OnePlus 8 — design details that matter for accessories

The OnePlus 8 measures 160.2 × 72.9 × 8 mm and weighs 180 g. It has an aluminium frame and curved Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back. The 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED screen refreshes at 90 Hz, and there is a punch-hole for the front camera in the top left corner. The vertical camera island with 48 MP, 16 MP and 2 MP cameras sticks out slightly above the back. The phone has no headphone jack, and the fingerprint reader is optical, hidden under the screen.

Official IP68 water resistance applies to versions sold by some carriers — units from open retail have no declared IP rating. The phone does not charge wirelessly. Wireless charging is supported by the larger OnePlus 8 Pro, but it has a different screen and dimensions, so accessories for the two models are not interchangeable. The same goes for the OnePlus 8T with its flat screen.

Screen film for the curved OnePlus 8 display

Flat tempered glass does not stick well to curved edges — in this category, screen protection comes in the form of films:

• full-coverage hydrogel films — wrap over the curve of the screen and work well with cases,
• flexible films with a self-healing layer — fine scratches smooth out over time,
• antimicrobial films — with an additive that limits the growth of bacteria,
• matte films for gamers — reduce glare and make swiping easier.

A film applied to a curved screen needs edges that adhere firmly — with a case that has a raised lip, choose a version slightly narrower than the screen so the lip does not lift it. After installation, register your fingerprint again.

Cases for the OnePlus 8

• bumper cases — slim covers with a distinctive sandstone, nylon or carbon texture,
• hybrid cases — a clear, rigid back and a flexible frame, also available with a camo pattern,
• rugged cases — multi-layer, with screen protection in the frame and a belt clip.

The case should rise above the edge of the screen, because curved glass cracks easily when the phone falls on its side.

Charging the OnePlus 8

The phone supports Warp Charge 30 W fast charging via USB-C. You will reach full power with a charger and cable compatible with this standard — regular USB-C wall chargers will charge it more slowly.

Frequently asked questions

Does a OnePlus 8 Pro case fit the OnePlus 8?

No. The OnePlus 8 Pro has a larger 6.78-inch screen and different body dimensions.

Why are films recommended for the OnePlus 8 instead of tempered glass?

The screen has curved edges. A flexible film follows the curve, while flat glass lifts at the edges.
