USB-A to USB-A cables

USB-A to USB-A cables are used to connect two devices with USB-A ports or as USB extenders. They come in handy when a computer's USB port is hard to reach or the cable from a charger or card reader is too short — a USB-A extension cable solves the problem.

Browse male-to-female (extenders) and male-to-male USB-A cables from Ugreen and Baseus, in USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 standards, from 50 cm to 5 m long.

USB-A to USB-A cable — extender and connector in one

A USB-A to USB-A cable in male-to-female configuration is a classic USB extension cable. It extends the reach of any cable with a USB-A plug — be it a USB-C charger cable, a Lightning cable, a card reader or a keyboard. A simple yet indispensable accessory for the office and home desk setup.

Types of USB-A to USB-A cables

  • USB-A extension (male-to-female) — one male plug, one female socket. Extends the reach of an existing USB cable
  • USB-A male-to-male cable — two male plugs. Used to connect two devices with USB-A ports (e.g. data transfer between computers with the appropriate software)

USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 — which version to choose

The speed difference matters:

  • USB 2.0 — up to 480 Mbps, sufficient for a keyboard, mouse, charging and basic sync
  • USB 3.0 — up to 5 Gbps, needed for external drives, card readers and devices requiring fast data transfer

USB 3.0 cables can be recognised by the blue colour inside the plug. They are backward compatible with USB 2.0, so you can always use a faster cable with an older device.

Typical uses

  • Extending a keyboard or mouse USB cable to a desktop computer
  • Bringing a USB port closer — e.g. from the back of the case to the desk
  • Extending the reach of a Wi-Fi adapter, Bluetooth receiver or card reader
  • Connecting a USB device in a remote location (e.g. USB lamp, fan)

Frequently asked questions

Does a USB-A extension cable reduce transfer speed?

Over distances of up to 3–5 metres, a USB 3.0 extension cable does not cause noticeable speed loss. Over longer runs (above 5 m), signal issues may occur — consider an active extension cable with a built-in amplifier.

Can I daisy-chain several USB-A extension cables?

Technically yes, but the total length should not exceed 5 metres (USB 2.0) or 3 metres (USB 3.0) without an active repeater. An excessively long chain of extensions may cause devices to work unstably.
