What do we know about the Xiaomi Mi9?
Anyone who is even slightly interested in smartphone innovations is certainly looking forward to tomorrow. This is the day that two brand new devices will have their premiere, i.e. Samsung Galaxy S10 and Xiaomi Mi9. We have already written about Samsung and its anticipated specifications in a previous article, and in today's article we will focus more closely on reports about the Xiaomi Mi9.
In this case, the company has taken a rather interesting and unusual strategy. It has provided practically complete information about its new device through social media. It seems to me that a move of this kind is quite risky, because in such a case is there any point in eagerly awaiting the launch, if even before it we already know everything about the product?
Thanks to the graphics posted online by the manufacturer, we already know that the Xiaomi Mi9 will feature a Samsung AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a diagonal of 6.4 inches. The maximum brightness is expected to be 600 nits, and the screen is expected to be covered with Gorilla Glass and, if rumors are to be believed, to occupy as much as 90.7% of the entire front panel area. Interestingly, the screen is also expected to include a highly sensitive illumination sensor and a next-generation fingerprint reader, and the screen itself is expected to be flat (this, depending on your tastes, could be an advantage or a disadvantage). In addition, Xiaomi assures us of 100% sRGB and AdobeRGB space coverage.
In the information about the Xiaomi Mi9 from the manufacturer, we can also find mention of an octa-core Snapgragon 855 processor with Adreno 640 graphics. It is also known that the device will be available in configurations with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for user data, or 6 or 8 GB of RAM along with 128 GB of internal storage. The most powerful version is expected to be available as Explorer Edition
The most attractive part of the smartphone, according to rumors, is expected to be the camera. It has also been characterized on Xiaomi's social media. The front camera is expected to have as much as 20 Mpix, but it is not the culprit of all the fuss. For on the rear panel of the device, is to be found, under a sheet of sapphire glass, a triple camera. The first is to have a resolution of 48 Mpix, the second 16, and the third 12 Mpix. The 48 Mpix camera gives us a 1/2" sensor and a 6-lens lens with an aperture of F/1.75. The 16 Mpix camera is also to have a 6-lens lens, which in this case is to be wide-angle, and the aperture is to be F/2.2. The last camera is to be responsible for photos with a 2x optical zoom. This one also has a 6-lens design, and the aperture is pronounced F/2.2
Even such as new modes have surfaced online from Xiaomi. Xiaomi has included a "High Quality" mode in the Mi9, which is designed to bump up the brightness of the display by 39%. There's also a "sunny 2.0" mode to improve contrast and comfort outdoors, and a reading mode that has increased color temperature adjustment to as much as 256-degrees, and smoother brightness adjustment.
The cheapest variant of the Xiaomi Mi9 will be available at a price of 516 (PLN 1975). The Explorer Edition version will cost $885 (£3390). Keep in mind that this is the conversion rate without taxes and distributors' margins - in Poland, prices will probably be slightly higher.
Is the price of the device adequate to its specifications? This question must be answered by each individual. However, I am convinced that the Mi9 will gain many fans.
