Screen protection for the Huawei Watch GT 7

The Huawei Watch GT 7 comes in three editions differing in case size and finish: 41 mm, 46 mm and GT 7 Pro. Because protective glass is cut for a specific dial diameter, a product bought for one version will not cover another correctly — it will leave a margin or stick out beyond the edge.

Which variant do you have

Hybrid glass for a watch

For watches it is above all hybrid glass that works — thinner and more flexible than the classic tempered kind. On a small dial that has a practical meaning: a rigid pane chips more easily at the edge when it hits a door frame, while a flexible layer copes better with such knocks. On top of that, thinner protection does not noticeably raise the profile of the watch, which you feel when wearing it under a sleeve.

Even if your unit has more resistant glass from the factory, a protective layer still makes sense — hardness protects against scratching, but not against a chip after a point impact on the edge.

Fitting on a small dial

Sticking protection onto a watch can be harder than onto a phone: the margin of error is a fraction of a millimetre, and a round dial gives no edge to align the layer against. Before sticking it down, degrease the glass with the cloth provided and work in a room with humid air — moisture binds dust and clearly reduces the risk of a speck underneath. If the protection has to come off after a few months, prise it up from the edge with a fingernail, not a sharp tool, so as not to scratch the case.
