Tempered glass for the iPhone 18 Ultra — which screen it goes on

This model is a foldable design with two displays, and that settles how you protect it. Tempered glass goes on the outer screen only — the smaller, flat and rigid one, which behaves like the display of a classic smartphone.

You do not apply glass to the flexible inner screen. A rigid sheet cracks along the fold line and lifts at the edges, and the shards can scratch or dent the panel underneath. There is a second argument that follows straight from the construction: the top layer of a folding screen is flexible, so hard glass has nothing to hold on to. Tempered glass, hybrid glass or film
