Accessories for iPad Air 10.9-inch (2020, 4th generation)
The iPad Air 4 is the Apple tablet that introduced a new design with flat edges and a 10.9-inch screen — the same one later used in the iPad Air 5th generation. The A14 Bionic chip and support for Apple Pencil 2nd generation make it a highly functional device.
Compatibility with iPad Air 5
The iPad Air 4 (2020) and iPad Air 5 (2022) have identical body dimensions (247.6 x 178.5 x 6.1 mm), so most cases and glass are labelled as compatible with both generations. Check this in the product description before buying.
Accessory types
- Smart cases (with flip cover) — screen protection, automatic sleep/wake, stand function
- Back cases — rear protection for the tablet, compatible with Magic Keyboard
- Keyboard cases — turn the tablet into a laptop for work
- 9H tempered glass — protection for the Liquid Retina screen
- Matte paperlike films — a paper texture for drawing and note-taking with Apple Pencil
What to look out for
The iPad Air 4 supports Apple Pencil 2nd generation (magnetic attachment and charging on the side of the tablet). Make sure the case you choose has a cut-out or flat edge where the Pencil attaches. Cases with a strong magnetic flap can interfere with the stylus mount.
Newer iPad Air models: iPad Air 5 (2022), iPad Air 11" 2024, iPad Air 13" 2024.
FAQ
Will an iPad Air 4 case fit the iPad Air 5?
Yes — the iPad Air 4 and 5 have identical dimensions. Most cases are compatible with both generations.
Does Apple Pencil 1st generation work with the iPad Air 4?
No — the iPad Air 4 only supports Apple Pencil 2nd generation, which attaches magnetically to the side of the tablet.
