USB-C to MagSafe 3 cables — charging your MacBook
These are magnetic power cables ending in a MagSafe 3 connector on one side and USB-C on the other — replacements for Apple's original MacBook cable. MagSafe 3 is the magnetic charging port found in MacBook Air and Pro models since 2021. The biggest advantage of the magnetic connector is safety: if you trip over the cable, the connector detaches on its own instead of pulling the laptop off the table.
Which MacBooks support MagSafe 3?
- MacBook Pro 14" and 16" — from 2021 (M1 Pro/Max) and newer.
- MacBook Air 13" — from the M2 (2022) and M3 (2024), as well as the Air 15".
All of these models can also be charged over USB-C, but magnetic MagSafe is simply more convenient — the connector guides itself into the socket and clicks in with one hand.
What to look for when choosing?
- 140 W support (USB-C PD 3.1) — the full 140 W is used by the MacBook Pro 16". A 140 W cable is universal “upwards”: it will also handle weaker models, where the real power is limited by the charger or the laptop itself.
- Length — the market standard is 2 metres, just like Apple's original.
- Braid quality — a nylon braid increases durability and resistance to bending.
To achieve the fastest charging you need all three: the MacBook, a USB-C PD power adapter of the right wattage, and a cable that supports high current. Available options include the Tech-Protect MMC01 Ultraboost 140 W, 200 cm long.

Frequently asked questions
Does a replacement charge a MacBook as fast as the original?
Yes, as long as the cable supports the USB-C PD 3.1 standard and the declared power (e.g. 140 W), and the adapter has the right wattage. Full speed depends on the cable, the adapter and the laptop model together.
Does a MagSafe 3 cable charge an iPhone?
No. This is a cable for the MagSafe 3 port in MacBooks, not for MagSafe wireless charging in the iPhone. These are two different solutions with the same name.
