Motorola Edge 70: dimensions and design

The Edge 70 is the global version of the Moto X70 Air and an exceptionally thin phone: it measures 159.9 × 74 × 6 mm and weighs 159 g. It has a flat 6.7-inch P-OLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate under Gorilla Glass 7i, an aluminium frame and a fabric-like textured back that sits securely in your hand. The body meets the IP68 and IP69 standards as well as MIL-STD-810H.

The island with two 50 MP cameras (a stabilised main camera and an ultra-wide) protrudes above the back, so the phone wobbles on a table without a case, and the lens glass is exposed to scratches. In the Edge 70 series, each variant, including the Edge 70 Fusion and the Edge 70 Pro, has its own dimensions and camera layout, so choose accessories labelled for the specific model.

Which case should you choose for the Motorola Edge 70?

• Flexible clear case: adds the least thickness and shows off the colour of the back.
• Rugged case: thicker corners and a raised lip around the camera island, for anyone who often drops their phone.
• Flip case and wallet case: covers the screen in your bag and holds cards.
• Case with a magnetic ring: lets you use MagSafe-style magnetic accessories such as mounts, wallets and chargers. The Edge 70 specifications do not list magnets in the body, so it is the case that provides the magnetic hold.

Tempered glass and screen film for the Edge 70

The flat screen allows you to use classic tempered glass, either clear or with a black frame that masks the edge. Alternatives include hybrid glass, hydrogel, ceramic and matte films, as well as privacy versions. Films are thinner, so they work better with cases that have a high lip. On top of that there is camera glass, which protects the lenses on the protruding island.

Charging the Motorola Edge 70

The phone accepts up to 68 W via USB-C and 15 W wirelessly. A thin TPU case does not get in the way of wireless charging; for full wired power you need a sufficiently powerful smartphone charger.

In the car, a magnetic car mount works well in combination with a ring case, or a clamp mount. With a clamp mount, check that the arms do not press the buttons on the side of the slim body.
