USB-C to DisplayPort cables
A USB-C to DisplayPort cable connects a laptop, MacBook or tablet with USB-C directly to a monitor with a DP input. The range includes DisplayPort 1.4 cables supporting 8K 60 Hz and 4K 144 Hz with DSC compression.
It is a good choice for a gaming monitor, because DisplayPort lets you make full use of a high refresh rate. Cables from Ugreen, Baseus, Tech-Protect and Choetech come in lengths from 1 to 3 m.

USB-C to DisplayPort — when it makes sense
A USB-C to DisplayPort cable is useful with gaming and professional monitors that offer their full refresh rate over the DisplayPort input. If your laptop only has USB-C, this cable lets you use that input without an HDMI adapter. The connection carries video and audio, and the monitor treats it just like a cable from a graphics card.
What the USB-C port needs
The port on your laptop or tablet must support DisplayPort Alt Mode, i.e. video output over USB-C. Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 ports have it, as do MacBooks, iPads with USB-C and most business and gaming laptops. A standard USB-C port for charging and data will not output video. In the specifications, look for DP Alt Mode or a DisplayPort symbol next to the port.
Resolution and refresh rate
- 8K 60 Hz — the maximum for the DisplayPort 1.4 cables in this category, useful with 5K and 6K monitors.
- 4K 144 Hz and QHD 240 Hz — typical gaming monitor settings that USB-C to DisplayPort will handle if both the laptop and the monitor allow it.
- 4K 60 Hz — office work and graphic design on a 4K monitor.
For a desk with the laptop next to the monitor, 1–1.5 m is usually enough. A longer 2 or 3 m cable comes in handy when the laptop sits on a stand to the side or lies closed under the desk.
You can connect two monitors with two cables to two USB-C ports, provided both output video. Also check how many external displays your laptop supports — some models, including MacBooks with the base Apple M1 and M2 chips, can only drive one external monitor.
For a monitor without a DP input, see USB-C to HDMI cables. For a desktop PC with a graphics card, choose a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. If you also need charging and USB ports at the monitor, take a look at USB-C adapters and hubs. You will find the full choice of display cables in the video cables category.
Frequently asked questions
Does a USB-C to DisplayPort cable work both ways?
No. The USB-C plug goes into the laptop or tablet and the DisplayPort plug into the monitor. The cable will not carry video from a graphics card to a monitor with a USB-C input.
Will the cable charge my laptop?
No, a USB-C to DisplayPort cable only carries video and audio. To charge at the same time, you need a hub with a power input or a monitor with USB-C Power Delivery.
