The Redmi 17 is a phone for which accessories are bought above all practically: the point is for the device to survive daily use without a scratched screen and knocked corners. The 4G and 5G versions share the same body — identical dimensions, the same 6.9-inch screen and the same factory Gorilla Glass 7i. They differ only in the processor, so cases and glass are shared by both and you do not have to check which edition you are holding.

One thing is worth knowing: this is a heavy phone — it weighs over 230 grams, mainly because of a very capacious cell. With that mass a fall carries more energy than in a light construction, so a case with genuinely reinforced corners matters more here than on a slimmer model.

Flip cases and wallets

A popular choice for this series are wallet cases — with a flap covering the screen and pockets for cards. They give two things at once: they protect the display when the phone lies in a bag together with keys, and they let you leave your wallet at home on a short trip out. The flap also works as a stand when watching films.

The alternative are flexible cases — thinner, they do not increase the bulk of the phone, but they leave the screen exposed, so protective glass then stops being an option and becomes a necessity.

Tempered glass

Glass for this model is worth taking with a fitting kit: a cloth and a dust sticker. The most common cause of a failed fitting is not the glass itself, but a speck that stays underneath and creates a rainbow patch impossible to remove without taking the whole thing off.

What wears out fastest

In phones from this bracket the first things to give way are usually the corners of the body and the screen coating. The corners take the hit in every fall, because they are the first to strike the ground — which is why even a thin case with slightly thickened corners genuinely extends the life of the phone. The oleophobic coating on the screen wears off after a few months and shows up as a finger no longer sliding smoothly over the glass; replacing protective glass restores that comfort more cheaply than any repair.
