Choosing accessories starts with working out which of these versions you wear: they differ not only in diameter, but also in whether a movable bezel sits above the screen.

Straps — the most important thing before buying

Samsung changed the way the strap is attached with the Galaxy Watch 8 and kept it in the ninth edition. In practice this means one simple rule:

• Straps from the Galaxy Watch 8 fit the Galaxy Watch 9 — the mechanism is the same, including between the regular version and the Classic
• Straps from the Galaxy Watch 7 and older do not fit without a dedicated adapter — even though they look much the same

Types of straps

• Silicone — for training and summer, sweat resistant, easy to clean
• Nylon and woven — breathable, soft, good for all-day wear

Screen and case protection

The Galaxy Watch 9 screen is flat in its central part, so both tempered glass and a thinner protective film work well on it. Glass copes better with point impacts against a door frame or a handle, film is more discreet and cheaper to replace. A separate group are cases and covers, which also protect the edge of the case — the part most exposed to scrapes against a wall.

With the Classic version, pay attention to one thing: the cover must not block the rotating bezel. A case designed for the regular version can restrict its movement, and that is the basic way of navigating this variant.

How to choose the size

The 40 mm version is lighter and looks better on a slimmer wrist, while 44 mm gives a bigger dial and a more legible screen during navigation or training. The Classic 46 mm is the bulkiest variant — and it adds a metal bezel that you feel on your arm all day. You can check the case size in the watch settings or on its underside.

Not without an adapter. The mounting changed with the Galaxy Watch 8 and accessories from earlier generations do not clip in directly.

Tempered glass or film?
