Running Accessories
Running accessories keep your phone, keys and water bottle within reach and stop them bouncing around in your pocket. Choose from running armbands for smartphones, running belts worn at the waist, running vests with a pocket for your phone and flask, and wristbands with a key pocket.
They are light and stable, so they work just as well on a short warm-up as on a long run.

Running vest, belt or armband — which to choose
The choice depends mainly on the distance and on what you want to take with you. A running armband works well on shorter runs when you want your phone within reach — you can see your pace and map through the clear window, and changing the track doesn't mean taking the phone out. A running belt keeps the phone close to your body's centre of gravity, so it bounces less and doesn't weigh down one arm, and there is room next to the phone for keys or an energy gel. A running vest is the choice for long runs and trail running — it spreads the weight across your shoulders and back, and the front pockets hold a phone and a soft flask. For a short run, a stretchy wristband with a small pocket for a key or a small phone is enough.
Running phone armband — how to choose the size
- Phone in a case — manufacturers state the maximum screen size, but a thick rugged case can stop the phone from fitting in the pocket. Compare the dimensions of the phone with its case against the dimensions of the armband's compartment.
- Arm circumference — measure your bicep at its widest point, relaxed and flexed. The result should fall in the middle of the adjustment range: at the extremes the Velcro holds less well, and an armband that is too tight presses and chafes.
- Using the screen — the window should respond to touch, and the cut-outs should give access to the headphone port or cable.
Running belt and running vest — getting the fit right
Vests and belts come in sizes: a vest is chosen by chest circumference, a belt by waist circumference. A vest should fit snugly and not bounce, but it must not rub under the arms, so try it on fully loaded. If you are between sizes, follow the manufacturer's size chart and try the vest on with a flask and your phone. A running belt should sit steadily at hip level and not rotate while you run.
